Story
Carmen Rose is an olfactory artist who uses scent to celebrate, honor, and eulogize the people and places that move her. Working with a palette of pure botanical ingredients, she creates invisible portraits that capture the essence of people, places, and ideas beyond the visual realm.
To complement her olfactory art, Carmen has studied natural perfumery for many years including with Mandy Aftel of Aftelier, one of the preeminent and most respected natural perfumers of our age. Carmen's debut natural perfume line, Eulogy, featuring rare botanical ingredients and unusual aromatic combinations, launches in Winter 2025.
Bespoke Perfume
For both individuals and brands, Carmen crafts bespoke olfactory portraits that capture the essence of an individual, memory, or meaningful place. The process begins with an in-depth consultation to explore your aromatic preferences and olfactory vision. Drawing from her curated palette of over 300 rare botanicals, Carmen composes a series of fragrance studies, refining and adjusting until the perfect aromatic expression emerges. The result is a unique custom perfume whose formula belongs solely to you.
Olfactory Portrait Class
In these immersive workshops, participants explore the profound connection between scent and memory while learning the fundamentals of fragrance composition. Under Carmen's guidance, students learn to structure a perfume through hands-on experimentation with botanical ingredients, crafting a sophisticated personal scent that reflects their inner world. Participants depart with 'a memory in a bottle': a unique, custom perfume they've blended by hand and an Aftelier Natural Perfume Wheel which organizes essential oils, absolutes, and natural isolates into their respective scent families.
Carmen offers the class in several formats that can be customized for special occasions such as bridal showers, milestone celebrations, or corporate gatherings, accommodating groups from 2 to 18 participants.
Events & Experiences
Carmen creates custom olfactory experiences for events, installations, artistic projects, and brand collaborations. Her expertise in perfumery allows her to design unique scent experiences that engage audiences in unexpected ways, whether through interactive installations, sensory performances, or environmental fragrancing. Each project is thoughtfully developed to complement and elevate the overall creative vision.
Eulogy X HFFA
In their collaboration Eulogy x HFFA, Carmen works with fine artist Hannah Franco on a perfume line that explores synesthesia. The perfumes serve as olfactory companions to Hannah's oil paintings, translating visual elements like color, texture, and form into aromatic experiences. The collaboration recognizes and elevates scent as art on another plane.
Carmen and Hannah also offer bespoke commissions based on personal narrative. Hannah translates your story into visual language while Carmen creates an olfactory interpretation using pure botanical ingredients. Each painting stands complete as a visual work, and each perfume exists independently as an olfactory composition. Together, they offer two distinct sensory pathways to the same story—each complete in its own sensory realm while sharing conceptual DNA.
